Arup Foresight, a think-thank and consultancy that focuses on the future of the built environment and society at large, recently published "Future of Labs" that looks at the dialog between technology and design inside and outside of laboratories. Flansburgh-designed Hawaii Preparatory Academy Energy Lab is featured as a case study for its remarkable connection with renewable energy and sustainable living systems.
"The Energy Lab at Hawai’i Preparatory Academy is a purpose-built educational facility by Flansburgh Architects and BuroHappold Engineering. The building provides space for students to study renewable energy and sustainable living systems. The building is fully-powered by alternative energy sources. It achieved LEED Platinum certification and meets the Living Building Challenge standards. The sustainable management of water, energy, waste and other systems on-site creates a unique building and landscape that students can study and learn from in-situ."
