In December 2015, the International School of Dakar invited Flansburgh to design a new Performing Arts Complex and Athletics facility for their beautiful campus overlooking the Atlantic Ocean near the westernmost tip of Africa. The addition of a PAC furthers ISD's strategic goals focused on fostering student arts involvement and nurturing student talents and passions.
Identification of program elements grew out of a master plan exercise Flansburgh completed, studying campus facilities and the school’s future growth. The addition of a 350-seat theatre, black box theatre, technical support areas, art gallery, and classrooms will create a new permanent home for the arts. New centralized athletics facilities will interface with the arts complex to provide community spaces accessible to the public in a district separate from the academic buildings.
After developing design drawings, Flansburgh worked with a local architect and project management team through production of construction documents. The project is scheduled to break ground spring of 2018 for an opening of Fall 2019.
ISD is the only English-language school offering an IB diploma in Senegal and only nonsectarian English-language school in Dakar.
