Bourne Intermediate School receives a 2022 BSA Citation
The Boston Society for Architects awarded Flansburgh with the citation at the 2022 Design Awards Gala. Principal Kent Kovacs accepted the honor on behalf of the project team.
The visioning process involved meeting with a variety of stakeholders and synthesizing information from all parties, including the school district and the public. Community members participated in web-based surveys and attended 20 community forums spanning over 14 months. Topics focused on evaluating multiple grade configurations on various sites, educational visioning, and sustainability. This project used an integrative design process to achieve a sustainable and holistic new school focused on community wellbeing. Placement on the campus, enhancing green space and building orientation were considerations of the local microclimate.
