The American School of Recife (EAR) is a co-educational day school serving approximately 400 students in Pre-K through 12th grade. The campus sits on an 8-acre (3.4-hectare) site filled with trees, flowers and foliage. Facilities include 38 classrooms, science labs, a music room, a small theater, a technology lab, two libraries, two dining areas, two faculty resource centers, a maintenance building, an infirmary, administrative offices, three playgrounds, three multi-sport covered courts, a covered clay tennis court, a soccer field and two sand volleyball courts.

The master plan addresses two key areas: classroom additions and community spaces. The approach to academic space involves strategically infilling or adding to existing structures to gain needed classroom space, an economical and incremental approach. It also enlarges and updates the existing library to anchor the upper school academic quad. Community space is strengthened by creating a new Dining Commons and Arts Center along an axis with the library, and organizing athletic space at the periphery.

Other guidelines include developing a yearly ongoing maintenance schedule; collecting and storing rainwater for irrigation and plumbing fixtures; improving the entrance to the school by paving the parking lot and creating more seating and waiting areas; adding art display and school information areas; and building a soft surface running track around the soccer field.
